Frequently Asked Questions

The letter of intent (LOI) is a non-binding agreement that sets forth the desire for both parties to establish a mutually agreeable partnership, and outlines preliminary terms for a definitive agreement. The announcement of the proposed partnership is a preliminary step in a process that will last several months.

A period of due diligence will follow the LOI.  Once completed and a definitive agreement has been approved by both parties, the plans will be reviewed by federal and state regulators.

In an ongoing effort to maintain our mission as our Village Improvement Association (VIA) Founders intended, both the Doylestown Hospital and Doylestown Health Foundation Boards of Trustees have spent the last year examining every avenue so that we can remain relevant and indispensable to the communities that we serve.

As you know, the COVID-19 pandemic had an unprecedented and significantly negative financial impact on health systems nationwide, especially independent health systems like Doylestown Health. As an organization, we have worked hard and made excellent progress in our efforts to strengthen our finances while maintain the quality and patient safety for which we are renown.

The possibility of a partnership with Penn Medicine, a nationally recognized leader in healthcare, would provide us strength and stability as we head into our second century of care.

Penn Medicine and Doylestown Health have shared values and commitment to serving patients across all four sites of care – in hospitals, outpatient facilities, in the home, and via telemedicine. Joining Penn Medicine would not only provide us the financial strength to expand our services, but also stay at the forefront of advances in medicine.

The Doylestown Health Foundation will remain under the leadership of the VIA and all donations and assets of the Foundation will be restricted to meet donor intent and support the priorities of Doylestown Hospital.

The Doylestown Health Foundation will remain independent. Your donation to the Doylestown Health Foundation will continue to benefit the growth and enhancement of Doylestown Hospital, as you intended, now and in the future.

Until such time as a definitive agreement has been completed and approved by regulators, nothing will change. Once any transition process is completed, the strength and clinical excellence of Penn Medicine would enable Doylestown Health to explore, expand, and enhance the programs and services that we provide – positively impacting the health and well-being of our patients and families.
