Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)    

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a procedure combining endoscopy and x-rays to identify & treat problems of the bile and pancreatic ducts.

How Is an ERCP Performed?

During the procedure, a special endoscope is used to examine the inside of your digestive system. Your gastroenterologist will then inject a contrast dye while x-rays are taken. The dye allows your physician to identify each part of the digestive system on the x-rays.

Your physician may use ECRP to help diagnose several different digestive issues and diseases, including:

• Problems in the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, and pancreas
• Blockages or narrowing of the bile or pancreatic ducts
• Fluid leakage from the bile or pancreatic ducts
• Pancreatitis
• Tumors
