I am excited and honored to have been elected to serve as Program Director of Doylestown Hospital’s first residency program in Family Medicine. My professional and academic background is in family medicine, skilled nursing care, acute hospital care, and medical education. I most recently served as the Director of Inpatient Medicine/Academic Hospitalists for the Bryn Mawr Family Medicine Residency program before joining Doylestown Hospital in 2018.  I was recruited to build the hospital’s first post-acute care medical service as well as our first Family Medicine Residency program. Upon joining Doylestown Health, I’ve had the honor of my peers acknowledging my work and accomplishments by naming me the medical director for post-acute care. We provide care at numerous facilities in the area including our very own Pine Run Health Center. My passion for education has led me to serve as Clinical Assistant Professor at both Thomas Jefferson University Medical School and Philadelphia School of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). Teaching and education mean a great deal to me and I am humbled to have received awards for excellence in teaching of medicine. I received my medical degree from University Americana (UNIBE) Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and completed my residency at Latrobe (PA) Area Hospital.

I grew up in Bucks County and graduated from the Central Bucks School District. I am board-certified in Family and Geriatric medicine with a background in both academia and community medicine settings. I pride myself on delivering comprehensive, compassionate care to my patients at Plumsteadville Family Practice (where I’ve practiced since 2004), as well as at Doylestown Hospital. I serve in several roles within Doylestown Healthcare Partnership (focusing on optimizing population health) including a position on the Management Committee, acting as the co-director of the Informatics Committee, and serving as a co-medical director representing primary care physicians. My professional interests include academic medicine, practice management, population health, healthcare informatics, and electronic health records. My personal interests include ice hockey, road cycling, Philadelphia sports, and spending time with family.

I am currently a family medicine physician at Doylestown Health Primary Care – Buckingham. I joined my current practice after serving as a family medicine physician from Muhlenberg Primary Care in Bethlehem in 2015, but I am happy to be back in the community where I grew up. I received my medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) and completed my residency at St. Luke’s University Hospital Network. I enjoy volunteering and mentoring in various settings throughout the community. I am excited to be part of the first medical residency program at Doylestown Hospital and look forward to welcoming you to my hometown.

I have the pleasure of working at Doylestown Health’s Pine Run Health Center as a subacute and custodial care physician where I care for geriatric patients. I joined Doylestown Health’s medical staff in 2021 after working as an outpatient physician at Jefferson Health in Yardley. Prior to that, I worked as a family medicine physician in Kingston, NY. I received my medical degree from St. George’s University of Medicine in Granada, West Indies. I completed my family medicine residency at Excela Latrobe (PA) Hospital and my research residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. I enjoy teaching and am especially thrilled to be part of our Family Medicine Residency program.

I am an honors graduate of Drexel University College of Medicine and have been practicing in the Doylestown community since completing my Family Medicine Residency as a Chief Resident at Abington Memorial Hospital in 2008. An active member of the Doylestown Hospital Medical Staff, I feel excited and honored to teach the next generation of family physicians and to serve our greater community along with you. Prior to medical school, I taught writing as a postgraduate fellow at Wesleyan University and worked in medical publishing at The Rockefeller University Press in New York City. I enjoy the challenge of balancing the science and the art of family medicine -- the diagnosis and management of complex medical problems and fostering relationships with the people I am privileged to call my patients. I aim to help you to hone your valuable skills in both of these essential components of practice. My personal interests include home renovation projects, cooking, gardening, and travel, and I love living in Bucks County with my husband, two sons, and hound dog.

Will I play a part in decision-making?
Yes, as a Family Medicine resident, you will assist physicians with patient care decisions and under their supervision, effectively communicate those decisions with the patient. The Program Leadership and Administration believe in resident advocacy and encourage open communication whether it is one-to-one or in a group setting with others. As a participant in our first Family Medicine Residency program, you will play a major role in the development of the program for future students. Essentially, you will help grow and mold Doylestown’s first residency that will have an effect on future generations of doctors and the community we serve.
What is call like?

Expect to be scheduled for in-house call about every third night (when averaged over a four-week period). When at home and on call, it will count toward the 80-hour maximum weekly limit. The frequency of at-home call is not subject to every-third-night limitation but must satisfy the requirement for one day in seven that is free of clinical work and education, when averaged over four weeks.

At-home call will not be so frequent or taxing as to preclude rest or reasonable personal time for each resident. Residents are permitted to return to the hospital while on at-home call to provide direct care for new or established patients. These hours of inpatient patient care must be included in the 80-hour maximum weekly limit. Overall, there are two call-free months for each year of the residency.

Are there ways to help the underserved community?
The Ann Silverman Community Health Clinic is located within Doylestown Hospital. For 25 years, the Clinic has provided free medical, dental, and social services to low income, uninsured families in Bucks County. You will have the opportunity to work at the Ann Silverman Community Health Clinic as well as participate in volunteer activities throughout the year as part of our hospital’s wellness plan.
Does Doylestown Health's Family Medicine Residency program accept J1 Visas?

Unfortunately, our Family Medicine Residency program cannot accept applicants with J1 Visas at this time.

Where do residents live?
There are a multitude of options to lay down roots in central Bucks County during the tenure of your residency. The quaint borough of Doylestown is the county seat of Bucks County, and is known for its thriving business district. Especially popular among residents and visitors alike are its outdoor dining, old-time movie theater, shops, museums, and festivals. Philadelphia is approximately an hour’s drive from Doylestown and it’s a little more than that to get to New York City. With easy access to major metropolitan areas, leisurely weekend getaways to the Poconos or the Jersey Shore, Doylestown is a destination for the best of what is offered in the greater Philadelphia region.
What can I do in my time off?
Named as USA Today’s Best Small Town Cultural Scene in America in 2019, Doylestown is known for its museums, castles, art, and theaters. Doylestown is also home to the Bucks County Classic Bike Race, Doylestown Arts Festival, Doylestown 5K Race, Spooktacular Parade, Doylestown Pride Festival, Winter Festival, Seasonal Decorations, and much more. This charming town also has a bustling and eclectic restaurant scene. You can ask any one of the hundreds of staff members who will tell you Doylestown and the surrounding areas offer options for every interest and activity whether in downtown area or beyond the county line. It is an outstanding area to work, play, and call home.
Are there other residency programs at Doylestown Hospital?

Doylestown Health is committed to enhancing the knowledge, skills, and performance of our nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals, leading to improved patient outcomes. In 2020, Doylestown Health launched a Pharmacy Residency program which just recently just earned accreditation by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Only 17% of hospitals host post-graduate pharmacist training programs, and Doylestown Hospital is now recognized as part of this exclusive group achieving and maintaining superior standards of pharmaceutical care. Similarly, we are excited to extend our residency programs to develop activities and instruction aimed primarily at medical residents and fellows.

Our Family Medicine Residency is evidence of our commitment and our first medical residency. What makes joining our Family Residency program so unique is the opportunity to shape the future of many more residency programs at Doylestown Hospital. As a medical resident, you will be embedded within a community healthcare system established in 1923 that has earned national recognition and awards. As our CEO and President Jim Brexler states, “Throughout our history, the leaders of our organization have made top priorities of improving patient experience and proactively advocating for the wellness of the individuals we serve. Our predecessors created a culture marked by the relentless pursuit of quality, and we continue to uphold that commitment to patient safety.” As a new resident, you will now pave the way for future residents and at the same time, affect the culture and care of the patients and families who count on Doylestown Hospital for their future healthcare needs.
