As a teaching hospital, Doylestown Health is proud to educate the next generation of physicians. We recently welcomed eight new Family Medicine residents who will see patients at our Doylestown Health Family Medicine Residency Practice, conveniently located in the Health and Wellness Center in Warrington.
Residents are physicians who have graduated from medical school and work under the supervision of an attending physician. Family medicine physicians must complete three years of residency training before they are able to see patients without the presence of an attending.
According to Doylestown Health Resident Program Director Scott Blore, MD, residents play an important role in patient care and the healthcare community. “Our family medicine residents provide a high-level of care to our community. While many areas throughout the country are seeing a shortage, our region is fortunate to have a large number of family medicine physicians with availability to see patients in a timely manner,” he says.
Dr. Blore also says there are many benefits to seeing a Doylestown Health Family Medicine resident. Here are a few of the top benefits you receive when choosing a family medicine resident for your care.
You Get More Time with Your Doctor
Since Doylestown Health Family Medicine residents are still establishing their patient base, they have more time to spend with patients. They also have more openings available throughout the day, either by appointment, or as a walk-in.
In many ways, the Doylestown Health Family Medicine Residency Practice is like any other family medicine practice. Our residents provide comprehensive care to patients of all ages. You can also establish care with our family medicine residents and use them as your family medicine provider.
You Have an Extra Set of Eyes
There is always an attending physician supervising residents at Doylestown Health Family Medicine practice, which means you have the benefit of seeing two physicians during one appointment.
Your Physician is Still Studying
Residents are still in the process of studying to take their medical boards. That means they are learning about the newest advances and techniques in medicine. “Residents are learning from their attending, but in many cases, residents can teach their attending as well. Residents may have recently studied about a condition or treatment that resonates for the patient,” says Dr. Blore.
You Make a Difference
When you see a Family Medicine resident, you are helping support and educate the next generation of Family Medicine providers. “Ultimately, it’s our goal at Doylestown Health to train Family Medicine residents who stay in our community and continue to provide quality care for many years,” says Dr. Blore.
